Artist Profile: Ann Donnelly - Fused Glass Artist
I live in a small village to the south of Stratford-upon-Avon. Following thirty years of working as a museum curator, in 2011 I decided to follow a new path and inspired by the work of glass artist, Sue King, I started working in fused glass. I am mainly self-taught.
Neutrals, greys and subtle tints do appear in my glass pallet but I am usually drawn to hot, vibrant colours.
Thematically I am influenced by the wildlife of my Warwickshire garden and by coastal environments. I am also fascinated by the patterning of the scientific world, both at a micro and macrocosmic level, and recent commissions have been inspired by neural pathways and the birth of a star.
Kiln-fused glass offers a wide range of exciting techniques to manipulate glass, opening up many creative opportunities for me to explore these themes in my bowls, dishes and wall-hangings.
