Artist Profile: Barb Perkins
I trained as a Primary School teacher (specialising in ‘Early Years’) at Rachel McMillan College of Education, London. During this time I studied all aspects of the primary education curriculum but concentrated, as a main subject area, on Art – printing and textiles.
I mainly paint, stitch, etc for myself, not primarily for the commercial market, although it’s great when someone wants to buy a picture because they like it. I was a primary school teacher for 13 years and am convinced that ‘art’ is an essential commodity in ‘life’s journey’ I couldn’t survive without it!
I love to escape to the beach, the woods, or the hills and it’s there that I feel inspired to respond, and express my emotional response, to life and all it throws at me. I like to incorporate recycled materials in my work and to use what others discard.
