Artist Profile: Claire Henley - Painter

I studied Graphic Design at college and have worked as a freelance illustrator and artist for over twenty years. Past projects have included the designing of cards, giftware, tableware, textiles, and toys for clients worldwide. In addition I have written and illustrated over a hundred children’s books and I really enjoy visiting schools and libraries to talk about the book-making process.

Two years ago I began painting at a much larger scale on box canvases, and I draw inspiration from the outdoor environment, particularly the coastal areas of the West Country as well as the countryside around my home in Stratford upon Avon.

I love using acrylic paint for the strength of colour and versatility, and I use collage to add texture and depth to my paintings.

Some of my work is exhibited in galleries in Cornwall and Devon, as well as in shops and galleries closer to home. I have produced my own range of giclée prints and greetings cards, which I sell through local shops as well as at local Art Fairs. I have recently undertaken several commissions, and am very happy to discuss ideas for any future projects.
